Why You Shouldn’t Buy Followers

Have you ever seen ads promising a boosted follower count to uplift your page’s presence and appearances?

Here’s why that’s a TERRIBLE idea and not worth your money

1.) Your credibility is at risk

Having a low follower count is less than ideal; it may project an image of being premature or, worse, unprofessional. However, the truth is, you can always enhance your following. It’s never too late. Employing a thoughtful strategy, maintaining your on-brand messaging, showcasing your brand values, and delivering your followers a pertinent and value-add message all contribute to boosting your engagement and, eventually, your follower count.

Everyone has seen those profiles, particularly on Instagram, where comments are nothing but endless robotic comments. Not just spam, but inauthentic voices, “Sally Smith says she can’t live without this product – her family loves it” then upon minimal investigation you click on Sally’s profile and see *drumroll* she’s just another stock photo model. Not totally surprising to see on the internet (because who would LIE on the internet, right?) but still annoying.

It does take time and patience to optimize your profile and make it great, but there’s no way around putting in that effort.

2.) Platform Violations

Companies like Meta are cracking down on unsavory practices and have been known to punish accounts – from shadowbanning their content, to accounts getting the boot altogether, thus scrapping all the efforts and connections you made with real followers. No one wants to start back at zero!

3.) Metrics Going Wild

Metrics are free tools within social media platforms to give you insights into the information your account is collecting, such as who is looking at your profile and engaging with your content is like a sneak peak into your user’s psyche. They provide a window into your audience’s behavior, from those who visit your profile to those who engage with your content. Think of them as a compass guiding your marketing strategy. However, relying on skewed metrics can be akin to using a distorted map to navigate. Much like trying to find your way with a map that misrepresents locations and distances, inaccurate data can lead you down the wrong path, causing you to focus on the wrong audience or lead to conveying the wrong message to those who genuinely have a vested interest in your product or service. Ensuring the accuracy of your metrics is essential so that your strategic decisions are grounded in reliable information rather than a misleading guide.

4.) Wasted $$$

This is perhaps, the most instantaneous damage when engaging in these practices.

Remember, that just having a large follower number isn’t attractive on its own. It’s not a guarantee that you will attract new followers if you don’t churn out valuable content.

Your money is tangible. You worked hard for it. That hard-earned money is better spent on a strategist, tools to capture footage, and building your digital assets library.
